- Mr. Innocent Akhere Onwugbonu is an accomplished Chartered Accountant and Tax Professional with extensive experience in accounting, taxation, risk management, and financial advisory.
Professional Career
He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons, Upper Division) in Accountancy from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. He also obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Management from the University of Nigeria and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Taxation from the University of Lagos.
Mr. Onwugbonu began his professional career with Gerald Uzoma & Co., Chartered Accountants, where he rose to the position of Audit Manager, gaining extensive experience in audit, accounting, and financial advisory services. He later joined Standard Chartered Bank as an Internal Control Officer, where he strengthened internal control systems and ensured compliance with financial regulations. Subsequently, he moved to First Bank of Nigeria, where he excelled as an Enterprise Risk Management Specialist, contributing significantly to risk assessment and corporate governance frameworks.
He is currently the Managing Partner of Innocent Onwugbonu & Co., Chartered Accountants, where he leads the firm’s strategic direction and oversees the delivery of high-quality accounting, taxation, and advisory services. He also serves as the Lead Consultant at Towage Consulting Limited, providing expert consultancy in taxation, fiscal policy, and financial management.
Mr. Onwugbonu is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCTI). He has attended numerous professional conferences, seminars, and training programmes both locally and internationally, often serving as a resource person and lecturer, particularly in the areas of Fiscal Policy, Tax Policy, and Taxation.
In addition to his professional qualifications, he has received training in Project Management and is also a Certified Quality Management System (QMS) Internal Auditor.
With decades of professional experience across audit, banking, risk management, and taxation, Mr. Onwugbonu provides strategic leadership to the firm and remains committed to delivering exceptional professional services to clients.
